There are only so many hours in the day I can spend eating (Like, ten?). When I’m on the road researching new restaurants for our annual Hot 10 list, some of my favorite hours of the day are those right before dinner, when I try to work up an appetite by, well, wandering. A couple weeks back, I was doing just that in Cincinnati's Over-the-Rhine neighborhood when I passed a storefront called Continuum. Inside were my favorite Dusen Dusen outfits, gorgeous jewelry, playful mugs, and all the "objets" my heart desired. When I got back, I raved about the place to my colleague Elyssa Goldberg, who called up the owner, Ericka Leighton-Spradlin, to find out more about her and the shop. (Tidbit: Leighton-Spradlin came up for the idea for Continuum, which opened in 2015, while making ceramics on a commune in Maine). —Julia Kramer, senior projects editor
What’s your favorite thing in the store right now?
I just got in this jewelry and clothing line called Knobbly Studio, from a designer in Tel Aviv who collaborated with a tattoo artist in Switzerland. The tattoo artist, Laurie Franck, primarily does abstract, nude figure art, and she does stick-and-poke tattooing. Then I also love what we got in from Miranda Bennett, a designer based in Austin, Texas, who primarily works in denim, raw silk, and cotton gauze. She is doing a lot of really amazing dyeing processes where she creates her own wood and plant-based dyes from things like indigo and turmeric. Her works are so versatile. The last thing I should mention is a designer based in Los Angeles named Shaina Mote who has this pant that can wrap two different ways. It sounds really complex, but it’s such a simple pant. It’s called the Tulia.

What was the last place you traveled?
I just got back from a weekend in New York, but I’ve traveled so much in the last year. My favorite trip had to be Joshua Tree last October. I went for a psychedelic rock festival that was happening on the grounds of the Institute of Mentalphysics. It was wild—a very small festival in a place that just feels like Mars.

Favorite place to eat near Continuum?
I have two. The first is Salazar. The chef is from Colombia, and it’s a fusion restaurant with super fresh ingredients. He supports lots of local farmers. My friend Ryan Santos just opened up this amazing restaurant called Please. It’s the most creative dining experience that I’ve ever had. He started by doing pop-ups, and then launched a Kickstarter to open his own restaurant. He does a lot of local foraging too. My favorite so far has been a gnocchi dish that’s cheesy, flavorful, and very creamy.

Go-to host gift?
A Maison Louis Marie candle No. 04. The top notes are sandalwoods and cedarwood and the mid notes are nutmeg, vetiver, and cinnamon. It’s such a unique scent—not overly floral or sweet, with a little spice that’s like, wow, what am I smelling? Everyone has that experience with it. It’s essential oil–based with no parabens.

What’s the newest addition to Continuum?
A made-to-order clothing line based out of Minneapolis by Hackwith Design House. It’s beautiful and understated, with unique pieces that manage to be classic and funky at the same time. I also just got in an amazing ceramics line from Object-Matter (O-M) Ceramics. She has these mugs that don’t look like they’d be ergonomic but they actually are.

What items do you always have with you when you’re traveling?
I always have the Maison Louis Marie No. 04 perfume rollerball and these Annie Costello Brown earrings. You just throw them on and they finish your outfit. I also bring this amazing hiba wood atmosphere mist from Golda that has uplifting and antibacterial properties. I use it to cleanse wherever I’m at. Body oil is another major obsession of mine. I don’t do a body lotion. I always travel with a little bit of Davines Oi Oil; when I don’t do this step of my routine, I feel a little off. I use it in my hair and on my skin too. The last thing I bring is chlorophyll with mint that I drop into water.

What’s at the top of your bucket list?
I want to go to Costa Rica within the next three months. It’s a really peaceful, nature-preserving place—both things I’m really into. For further in the future, I want to go back to Japan.

What’s the weirdest thing in your fridge right now?
My husband picked me up from the airport with a new drink from my favorite juice place, Rooted. It had Brazil nut milk and matcha powder—it’s a new one I haven’t tried.

Where do you shop when you’re not at Continuum?
I take clothing and other things from Continuum all the time, because it’s an extension of myself. Otherwise, I always try to support local and small businesses. I’m currently having a desk made from Brush and I get my lingerie from Swoon.

What do you wash your face with?
I use an acne wash by Alba Botanica, since I’m prone to breakouts. I get it from Whole Foods. It’s minimal and not that aggressive.
